I don't have high hopes for anything but the Garden State Film Festival.
From the feedback received from the festivals, I'm realizing what I've
thought for awhile... Yellow Raincoat is currently not anything special.
Maybe it's better than mediocre but it's certainly not high enough above
average to garner festival attention right now. The good part about this
is it leaves me with a desire to make a better second film. I'm currently
trying to write a feature length script based on Yellow Raincoat. That
might take awhile given the slow pace I've been taking thus far. But I
still have the desire somewhere in me.
November 13th - This past weekend, we held the premiere screening at
Raconteur Books in Metuchen, NJ. We had a packed house of 40 and people
seemed to like the movie. It's difficult for me to tell though - I wonder
how many people would have the courage to say they didn't like it? We
also screened in Brooklyn on Sunday at Izzy Ramirez's studio in DUMBO,
though to a much more intimate crowd.
Festival submissions continue on. Here's the current list and the notification
dates for each:
Washington DC Independent Film Fest - January 15th
NewFilmmakers, NY - January 15th
Beverly Hills Shorts Fest - February 4th
Method Fest, CA - February 28th
Garden State Film Fest, NJ - March 1st
Staten Island Film Fest - March 7th
Aspen Shortsfest - March 10th
Hoboken International Film Fest - May 1st
Independent Features, NY - July 4th
San Francisco Shorts - July 15th
The "big" film festivals for the US - Sundance and Tribeca - are currently
not accepting submissions. I imagine that I will make submissions to those
two festivals next year when they open up their submissions again. The
one issue is that Tribeca does not show anything that has been broadcast
on tv or the internet, so if I decide to post the film, I'm disqualified
from that festival. I have to decide whether I care or not. Stay tuned.
October 31st - The picture is done. Copies have been printed. There is
no going back. Of course, I'm excited. Now I actually get to show the
picture to people. The first screening will be November 10th in Metuchen
at Raconteur Books. I'm also
working on a screening in Brooklyn some time soon. Submissions to the
Garden State Film Festival and Independent
Features Film Festival have been sent out. Other planned submissions
for this month include the Hoboken
International Film Fest, Washington
DC Independent Film Fest and NewFilmmakers.
Yellow Raincoat will be submitted to other festivals as the submission
dates come closer. If you would like to buy a DVD and help the movie enter
some of these festival competitions, the price is $15 which includes shipping,
or $10 if you can pick it up from me.
October 21st - Picture locked. Audio is still in flux, mostly mixed though.
Color correction will be next weekend. DVD duplication will take place
next weekend. Trailer is posted and also on Myspace.
Premiere screening is probably going to happen November 10th in Metuchen.
Details in the future.
October 16th - All actors are finished dubbing. This upcoming weekend
will be spent mixing audio and fine touching the edits. All festival submission
fees have been raised by our generous Executive Producers. Now all contributions
and DVD purchases will go towards DVD printing costs and shipping costs.
October 8 - Finished ADR on two actors, with the other two scheduled for
this Wednesday. Once that's done, we can start on final sound mixing,
color correcting and fine touches on the picture. The last major work
will be recording music.
If you would like to purchase a DVD copy of the film and/or make a contribution
to help with festival submission costs, contact
John Ur. For a $25 (or higher) contribution, you will be listed in
the credits as an Executive Producer and you will receive a personalized
copy of the film on DVD. For $15, you will only receive the DVD.
September - Working on polishing the audio. The hope is to finish the
film by the end of October to start submitting to film festivals.
September 6th - Finished the rough cut.
September 4th - Finished Shooting.
